This year’s Gate Safety Week runs from 10 – 16 October and the campaign is already well underway. The 2015 campaign was a tremendous success and this year, we’re hoping for even greater engagement, increased support and an enhanced level of awareness. We’re hoping that if we all do our ‘bit’ to improve the knowledge and understanding of the potential hazards associated with poorly fitted and maintained powered gates, accidents and worse, fatalities, will become a thing of the past.
Our key message:
We have a clear and simple message which lies at the very heart of the 2016 Gate Safety Week campaign: Safe Gates Save Lives! And, we’ll be pushing this message on our social media platforms and to the press. You can help us by doing the same. Download the logo from our website:
In addition, the objective of the campaign is to educate specifiers, merchants, installers, inspectors, surveyors and users in the correct specification, supply, installation and operation of powered gates; highlight the liability and responsibilities that apply to those responsible for powered gates and raise the importance of CE marking and what the DHF’s coveted ‘Safety Assured Mark’ means.
In recent years, three children and three adults have been killed in gate accidents. It is estimated that there are more than 500,000 automated gates in service in the UK, yet the industry says just 30 per cent of these are safe to use. Part of this year’s campaign will focus on keeping our children safe around automated gates. Will you help us spread the message?
